On August 26, 2000, a Storm struck Lake Elmo Airport.  A witness observed winds of 90 mph as hangars were destroyed and airplanes flattened.  The wind opened one hangar, pulled out an Aeronca Champ, flipped it on its back without letting it touch the hangar across the way.  Most of the hangar damage was confined to the South side of the field. but that damage was extensive.
